Description

Born in Scotland and now based in Windsor, Ontario, artist Elaine Carr’s work examines geographic and topographic narratives of land and water as they interact with human lives. She builds up drawings and mixed media works, piecing together fragments from the present and the past, from historical and geographical data, collected photographs, cartography, and memory. Her focus is on the Northern Hemisphere, with specific interest in the in the Great Lakes Basin and the Arctic. “Many narratives coexist on the same sections of water and land, layering story and time in constant flux”, she notes. “My work attempts to capture moments in time of this ongoing story”.

Elaine Carr’s practice also encompasses community-based and collaborative projects in Canada, the United States, and the Dominican Republic. Her works are held in public and private collections in Canada, the United States, and Europe.
